EPIDEMIOLOGY OF DIABETES MELLITUS, PRE-DIABETES, UNDIAGNOSED AND UNCONTROLLED DIABETES IN PAKISTAN

. Abstract Background: In the last few decades, the prevalence of diabetes mellitus (DM) has increased rapidly in Pakistan and other countries. We investigated the prevalence of DM, pre-diabetes, undiagnosed and uncontrolled Diabetes and its relationship with some socio-economic factors in Pakistan. Methods: The Health Study is a longitudinal study conducted to determine the prevalence of infectious diseases and risk factors. 10,000 adults aged 20-69 in a two-stage cluster sample (200 groups) was selected. Patients were considered to have DM if they were diagnosed with DM during the recruitment phase or by a physician. Fasting blood glucose ≥ 126mg/dL.
