CONCEPT OF SHUKRA DHATU – AN AYURVEDIC REVIEW

. Abstract Ayurvedic science is based on different Siddhantas (principles), such as Dosha-dhatu-mala Siddhanta, Panchabhautik Siddhanta, Lok purusha Siddhanta. Out of which Dosha dhatu mala is important principle of Ayurveda. In order to understand ayurvedic kriya sharira, one should study dosha, dhatu and mala. There are seven dhatus mentioned in ayurvedic texts. Shukra is the seventh dhatu, which considered as essence of all dhatus. Meaning of shukra is limited not only to semen in men but it is a broad concept given by Ayurveda. As per Ayurveda Shukra dhatu is present all over the body, both in male and female and it gives strength and energy to body. Shukra dhatu in its prakrut awastha (Pure form) nourishes the body while in its dushta awastha (Impure form) harms the body. The person with pure and healthy shukra considered as shukrasaravan.
