Shambhavi Srivastava*, Pramod Kumar Biswal, Firoj Alam, Abhijeet Anand, and Amrita Pal
. Abstract This work is aimed to formulate, evaluate and review the activity of the sensitivity toothpaste in the treatment of the sensitive teeth. Potassium nitrate is one of the mostly used desensitizing agents in the formulation of sensitivity toothpaste. It is effective in treatment of dentin hypersensitivity (DH). Efficacy of the potassium nitrate is tested by the evaluation of stimuli to assess sensitivity. Its efficacy can also be tested by using thermal or evaporative stimuli and its result was analyzed by visual analogue scale. Present work was also evaluated at different standard and testing like physical evaluation (colour, taste), fragrance, pH, foambility, spreadability, tube extrudability, viscosity, homogenicity, stability, moisture content, abrasiveness, particle size shape retention, limit tests, cleansing properties, microbial studies, and rheological properties. All these evaluations are completely based upon the Indian standards. Toothpastes are aimed to provide oral care and hygiene to the people in their daily life. Sensitivity toothpastes can’t be only used for the treatment of sensitive teeth but also they can be used for whitening of the teeth along with treating sensitivity of teeth. Keywords: Potassium nitrate, Desensitizing activity, Anti-sensitivity Toothpaste, Medicated Dentin Toothpaste, Dentifrices. [Full Text Article] [Download Certificate] |
