SWARNAPRASHANA IN CHILDREN: A SYSTEMATIC REVIEW

Abstract
Ayurvedic texts have copious references describing the use of gold
metallic powder or Swarna Bhasma in various rejuvenative therapies.
Kashyapa Samhita, which is the authoritative textbook of
Kaumarbhritya, depicts the unique practice of Swarnaprashana, under
the context of Lehana. He explained evidently the administration of
Swarna in children for the benefits of improving intellect, digestion,
metabolism, physical strength, immunity, complexion, fertility and life
span. Swarnaprashana therapy is becoming widely popular and being
administered on the Pushya Nakshatra of every month at Ayurveda
clinics across the country. Clinical and pharmacological studies show
immunomodulatory as well as therapeutic effects of Swarnaprashana
therapy. This review is an effort to evaluate the effects of
Swarnaprashana. The age and method of administration, benefits and
dosage are discussed here.
