PREVALENCE OF STRESS IN MBBS MEDICAL STUDENTS

Abstract

Context: A body's non-specific response to pressures placed on it, to upsetting environmental occurrences, or to demands made of it is referred to as stress. "A state of psychological and physiological imbalance resulting from the discrepancy between situational demand and the individual's ability and motivation to meet those needs," according to the definition of stress, it is subjective experience which cannot be avoided as it results from intricate interactions between an individual and his or her environment.” MSSQ having a high score in particular student group generally indicate that the subject perceived events, conditions or situations from the particular group as causing the subjects stress. Aim: To study the prevalence rate as well as degree of stress also find out specific domain of Stress in MBBS students. Materials and Methods: Study design: Crosssectional study. No of Participants: 200. Study Period: December 2021- January 2022. Study area: Medical College in Mumbai. The students who consented to participate in the study were included and were asked to complete self-administered questionnaires including socio demographic profile and MSSQ. Medical Students Stress Questionnaire (MSSQ) was used in the study. Utilising statistical analysis First, second, third, and fourth year MBBS students' levels of stress were compared using the Kruskal-Wallis test. Results: There was a mild amount of stress among the students, with third-year medical students experiencing a significant level of stress. Conclusions: Overall stress domain is Academic related stress domain that it can only be made light by including extracurricular activities for undergraduate students, such as conferences, music, dance, and social meetings. Parents and students can both have access to counselling cells. The institutional ethical committee approved the study.
