. Abstract Introduction: LDD being site specific can provide 100-fold higher therapeutic doses of the agent in sub-gingival areas compared to systemic therapy. Objective: To evaluate the efficacy of subgingivally delivered 1% ME, an indigenously prepared bio-absorbable controlledrelease gel, as an adjunct to scaling and root planing (SRP) in treatment of chronic periodontitis. Methodology: Forty two patients were randomly allocated into test group (SRP + 1% ME gel, n=21) & control group (SRP + placebo gel, n=21). Clinical parameters Plaque index (PI), Modified Sulcus bleeding index (mSBI), Gingival index (GI), Probing pocket depth (PPD) and Clinical attachment level (CAL) were recorded at baseline and at 1, 3 and 6 months. Results: The mean GI, PI, mSBI, PPD and CAL for the test group were 1.08±0.20, 2.62±0.62, 1.26±0.14, 4.44±0.34 and 4.80 ±0.35 respectively and 1.33 ±0.34, 2.92±0.57, 1.44±0.37, 5.07±0.84 and 5.50±0.46 respectively, for the placebo group at 6 months. Test group showed statistically significant results (P Keywords: . [Full Text Article] [Download Certificate] |
