Abstract
Sulfasalazine (SSZ) is a Disease modifying anti rheumatoid drug
(DMARD) used for various inflammatory joint disorders. DRESS
syndrome is a less commonly occurring side effect of SSZ which can
get flared up with co-administration of drugs like amoxicillin.[1,2] This
can occur through reactivation of latent Epstein Barr virus (EBV)
infection which can also cause manifestations of DRESS syndrome
worsening the patient’s condition.[2] Here we report a case of DRESS
syndrome in a young lady with undifferentiated arthritis, treated with
sulfasalazine, who had reactivation of EBV.
Keywords: Sulfasalazine, DRESS syndrome, Amoxicillin, latent EBV infection.
