FORMULATION AND EVALUATION OF ANTIFUNGAL HERBAL LOTION FROM PONGAMMIA PINNATA LEAVES

Abstract
Fungi are the most frequent cause of skin infections. The yeast
overgrowth on the skin that causes tinea versicolor is a fungus.
Antifungal tablet, cream, and lotion formulations are used to treat
fungus infections. Herbal cosmetics are created by mixing one or more
herbal substances with other cosmetic elements to treat a variety of
skin conditions. Lotions are liquid preparations designed for frictionfree
unnecessary application. It enhances skin freshness, emmolliency,
and other medicinal characteristics. It facilitates improved blood flow.
Lotion was created using Karanja oil, scientifically known as Pogamia
pinnata and a member of the Fabaceae family. Which exhibit
antifungal efficacy against Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Aspergillus niger, Aspergillus
fumigatus, and Staphylococcus aureus. The use of Pogamia pinnata in numerous traditional
medicine systems for the treatment of a range of human illnesses has received clearance.
Physical characteristics such spreadability and washability, homogeneity by touch and sight,
appearance, smoothness, pH and irritancy were assessed. The herbal composition had a
suitable consistency, excellent spreadability, homogeneity, pH, and non-greasy properties.
The herbal formulation showed better moisturising effect and give better elasticity to the skin.
