Abstract
Introduction: Urethral stricture is the narrowing of lumen of the
urethra having symptoms like dysuria, increased frequency,
progressive narrow stream. The symptoms of urethral stricture can be
correlated with the symptoms of Mutrotsanga (subtype of Mutraghata)
mentioned in Sushruta Samhita. Treatment in modern science for
Urethral Stricture is instrumental dilatation, urethroplasty but they also
have high risk of recurrences. As per Sushruta Samhita Uttar basti is
one of the effective procedure for Mutrotsanga. Method: A 42 years
old male patient having complaints of straining while micturition,
frequent micturition, poor stream of urine with intermittent flow,
incomplete emptying of bladder leading to fullness of bladder, accidental leaking of urine in
clothes since 3 years came to Panchakarma OPD. He was treated with Uttar basti for 21
days. Sahacharadi and Kasisadi taila were used for Uttar basti. Results: After 15 days of
treatment mild improvement was seen in straining while micturition, bladder fullness,
frequent micturition, poor stream of urine and time interval between passage of urine
increased. After 21 days of treatment significant resolution of stricture was seen along with
marked relief in other symptoms. Conclusion: Uttar basti for Urethral Stricture
(Mutrotsanga) is very effective and improves quality of life of patient without or with
negligible side effects.
