A CLINICAL STUDY OF PRAPOUNDARIKADYA GHRITA APPLICATION ON EPISIOTOMY WOUND
Dr. Kavya S. R.*
. Abstract An episiotomy wound is nothing but a surgical incision which is compared to sadyovrana,[1,3,6,8,10] as per our classics. Though the episiotomy cut is small cut, owing to its vicinity to excretory organs it becomes prone to infections and causes problem to heal. The science of healing has always been a matter of serious concern to ancient surgeons. This fact can be very well understood when going through Sushrutha Samhita where a good number of chapters dealing with vrana and its management is found. There are many factors responsible to delay the healing process. Though there are variety of chemical substances which are patented wound healing agents, their inability to become successful drugs may be due to fact that they act only on a particular level of healing along with other healing aids. Hence to get more effective wound healing developed from natural drugs is being tried by Ayurvedic experts since long time, present work is also planned with same concept with herbal drug preparation named “Prapoundarikadya Ghrita”, which is mentioned in Chakradatta in Vranashotha Adhikara for vrana ropana. In this research study total 40 patients were registered and treated in two groups, Group –A with the application of Prapoundarikadya ghrita,[2,4,5,9] on episiotomy wound and Group –B with the application of Jatyadi ghrita,[5] on episiotomy wound,[1,6] as standard control group. Encouraging results were observed in Prapoundarikadya ghrita,[2,4,5,9] It gave similar results in wound healing as compared with standard drug. Keywords: Prapoundarikadya ghrita, Jatyadighrita, Episiotomy, Vrana. [Full Text Article] [Download Certificate] |
