A PROSPECTIVE OBSERVATIONAL STUDY ON TREATMENT OUTCOMES IN NON-ORGANOPHOSPHOROUS POISONING

Abstract
Objective: To study treatment outcomes and clinical profile of nonorganophosphorus
compound poisoning in a tertiary care hospital – A
prospective observational study. Method: 130 patients were enrolled
in the study after obtaining the consent. Data required for clinical
profile and treatment pattern were collected on case report form and
analysed. Result: Out of 130 patients 91% were suicidal cases. The
majority of the cases reported were from Rural areas (61%). The
majority of the patients reportedly consumed rat kill (34%) followed
by phenyl (25%), medicinal compounds (15%) and rest were other
compounds. Suicidal poisoning was most common in patients aged
between 21-40 years (70%) and seventy-five (58%) were married population. Out of total
130 patients 98% were discharged and 2% of patients found dead. Conclusion: A vast group
compounds found other than organophosphate which was consumed by the people. The cases
of Non-OPP (non-organophosphate poisoning) were most common in age group of 21-40
years having reasons like family stress, economic crisis, relationship issues, stress about
future. Survival rate was more than that of the organophosphate poisoning.
