EFFECT OF AYURVEDA TREATMENT FOR COVID 19 WITH HOME-BASED MANAGEMENT: A SRI LANKAN STUDY

Abstract
The world health organization declared COVID-19 as a global health
emergency and pandemic in 2020. It is constantly monitoring, COVID-
19 is a rapidly changing and evolving situation and updating the
information available regarding its spread, mortality, and morbidity.
The objective of the current study was to reduce the risk to the life of
COVID-19-infected people in the Bibila Pradeshiya Sabha by
Ayurvedic treatments with home-based management. This study was a
longitudinal study based on an observational analysis design to
evaluate the effect of Ayurveda management in COVID-19 within the
Bibila division. The study was carried out with 1369 patients of both
sexes above one year old throughout the period of 21 days within the
third wave of the pandemic in Sri Lanka. Descriptive analysis and the
Friedman rank test were used to analyze these data. Despite the patient presenting with
symptoms, namely fever, body pain, cough and sore throat along with many of the other
associated symptoms of COVID-19, the progress of the disease could be arrested within a
short period by being exclusively on Ayurvedic medicines. According to the results of the
present study, it could be concluded that short-term administration of Ayurvedic medicines
has shown a significant effect in decreasing the severity of the disease.
