Abstract
Cerebral palsy (CP) is a leading cause of childhood disability affecting
the development of children and its prevalence rate is 2-3/1000 live
births in developing countries. Cerebral Palsy is classified into four
types. Spastic, Ataxic, Dyskinetic and Mixed. Spastic Cerebral Palsy
accounts for a major portion in Cerebral Palsy cases with incidence
between 70% to 80% of the paediatric population. Spasticity of
Cerebral Palsy can correlate with Jadatwa, which occurs due to vata
vitiation. In Ayurveda, Swedana is considered to be the best treatment
in Vatavyadhis. Among different sweda, Upanaha relives Jadatwa
along with pain, inflammation, stiffness, heaviness and coldness.
Leena doshas are liquified and expelled through pores from the sweat
glands. The action of Upanaha depends on the drugs which are used.
Hence, an attempt was made to review the action of Upanaha in the management of spastic
Cerebral Palsy with respect to Jadatwa.
Keywords: Jadatwa, Spastic Cerebral Palsy, Upanaha.
