GRIDHRASI IN AYURVEDA AND ITS MANAGEMENT IN AYURVEDA (SCIATICA) - A CASE STUDY

Abstract
Sciatica is the Musculoskeletal Disorder of lower back pain along the
path of sciatica nerve. Effective treatment for sciatica is the need of the
hour which is not get fulfilled in conventional science. In Ayurveda
sciatica can be correlated with Gridhrasi. A Present Case study of male
patient of age 50 years old came at Kayachikitsa OPD of Institute
diagnosed as Sciatica (Gridhrasi) with SLRT Positive at 60o. Approach
of these case is to integrate Chikitsa Sutra given by Acharya Charaka
and Sushruta. Acharya Charaka stated Snehana, Swedana, Basti
chikitsa while Acharya Sushruta said Viddha chikitsa for Gridhrasi.
Basti chikitsa given as follows –Niruha Basti with Dashamoola kwath
and Anuvasana Basti with Sahachara taila in alternate days for 8 days. Followed by Viddha
chikitsa for 10 days. Clinical symptoms like Ruka, Toda, Stambha, Gaurava and SLRT was
significantly resolved after these treatment protocol.
