STUDY OF SERUM PROLACTIN LEVELS W.S.R. TO RASA PRADOSHAJ VIKARA AND STANYA DUSHTI

. Abstract Prolactin is a peptide hormone produced by anterior pituitary gland. Normal levels of serum prolactin are less than 22 ng/ml for women and less than 18 ng/ml for men. Presence of abnormally high levels of prolactin in blood is called as hyperprolactinemia. Prolactin is mainly used in women to produce milk after childbirth. In ayurveda, stanya and raja are explained as updhatus of rasa dhatu. Quality and quantity of these 2 updhatus depends upon saarata of rasa dhatu. Prinana (Nurishment) of body is the main function of rasa dhatu. Signs and symptoms of hyperprolactinemia and symptoms of rasa dhatu dushti or rasa pradoshaja vikara and stanya dushti can be compared with each other.
