Abstract

In the Siddha system of medicine various herbal drug formulations are described for various illness. In order to validate those formulations mentioned in our siddha literature, several evaluations has to be done. Vallarai Ilagam is the poly herbal formulation which is described as the medication of karappan(the skin disease) in the siddha literature PillaiPini Maruthuvam part II. For the scientific purpose, phytochemical analysis and pre-clinical study (Anti-inflammatory activity) were done. Hence the results and discussions of those evaluations helps to reveal safety and efficacy of the siddha drug towards the clinical condition called karappan.
