MULTIFACETED AYURVEDA TREATMENT REGIMEN FOR PITTAJA VISARPA W.S.R TO HERPES ZOSTER (SHINGLES) – A RETROSPECTIVE CASE STUDY

Abstract

Nowadays a disease named Shingles(Herpes Zoster) manifests as a dermatomal rash with severe pain, burning. It has it’s deep seeds many years back in childhood when Varicella Zoster infection (Chicken pox) occurred causing reddish papullar rashes all over body with fever, burning pain etc. It remains in latent stage for many years and it manifests mostly in immunocompromised individuals in Fifth and Sixth decade of life In modern counterpart they treat with high doses of Acyclovir to reduce viral load, Analgesics, Gabapentine Pregabalin etc to reduce neuralgia and sometimes even after this vigorous treatment pain persists for five to six months and treatment is also very costly whereas Ayurveda management of Herpes Zoster which falls under the umbrella of Pittaja Visarpa has satisfying results in the remedy of this disease which is also cost effective and there are negligible chances of recurrence and the treatment regimen comprises of Jalauka Avacharana(Leech Therapy) Bahya lepa and Shamana therapy(palliative care).
