A CASE STUDY: CONSERVATIVE AYURVEDIC MANAGEMENT OF MUTRASHMARI WITH SPECIAL REFERENCE TO UROLITHIASIS

Abstract

Ashmari (Urolithiasis) has been described in Ashta mahagada in classical text of Ayurveda.[1] Ashmari is kapha Pradhan tridoshaj vyadhi of mutravaha strotas.[2] Ashmari is formed when vitiated kapha dosha in mutravaha strotas is dried up by pitta or vata. On the basis of signs and symptoms mutrasmari can be correlated with Urolithiasis. Stones made up of calcium oxalate and calcium phosphate are commonly found. Generally when stones remain in the kidney mild pain occurs or go unnoticed. Once they enter the ureters it causes severe pain which aggravates on exertion like walking, jumping and climbing. Here the 23 years old female patient came to the kayachikitsa OPD presented with the complaints of pain abdomen radiating to back and thighs, burning micturiton, vomiting and obstructive micturation. On the basis of USG findings she was advised for the surgery. According to the ayurvedic prospective we have many formulations which have significant role in the management of urolithiasis or mutrashmari. Patient was kept on conservative treatment. Patient showed complete relief in sign and symptoms and USG findings were also negative for mutrashamari after treatment. So this case proved the effectiveness of Ayurvedic management in case of mutrashmari (Urolithiasis).
