Abstract

The ginger family of plants includes turmeric (Curcuma longa), a type of herb that is commonly cultivated in southern and south-western tropical Asia. Additionally, it is known that turmeric has been used for millennia in China and India to cure conditions including stress, depression, and dermatological conditions as well as infections and other disorders. The orange-yellow, lipophilic polyphenol compound known as "curcumin," which is obtained from the herb's rhizomes, is primarily responsible for turmeric's effects on health. As a result of these properties, curcumin plays a significant role in the prevention and treatment of many diseases, including diabetes, autoimmune disorders, neurological conditions, cardiovascular diseases, and cancer. In contemporary medicine, curcumin, a highly active biological substance, has the potential to treat a variety of ailments. The biological properties of curcumin are the main topic of this review paper. The chemical characteristics of curcumin are also highlighted in this review, enabling readers to examine it from new angles when creating functional goods with positive health effects.
