Abstract
Overactive bladder (OAB) syndrome is a chronic disabling condition
characterized by increased frequency and urgency with or without urge
incontinence and significantly affects the quality of life. Currently,
anticholinergic drugs, 5- phosphodiesterase inhibitors, and
intradetrusor botulinum A injections are used to treat OAB. Limited
efficacy and high rate of adverse events of these drugs lead to reduced
application in OAB. According to a survey by the World Health
Organization, presently, 80% of people use herbal medicine for some
primary health conditions. Physicians in India use Ayurveda, Yoga,
and some Traditional Chinese medicines as an alternative treatment for
OAB despite its uncertain efficacy and safety. This review aims to
consolidate the knowledge of Ayurvedic drugs, therapies, and Yogic practices commonly
prescribed for treating OAB in India.
