Abstract
Hippocrates of Kos, a Greek physician widely regarded as the founder
of modern medicine, said that "all diseases originate in the gut," even
though Acharya Charaka had already emphasized the significance of
Agni (the digestive fire) when he said that "the cause of all diseases is
Mandagni." It is now clear that the gut bacterial and flora can impact
the physiology of the central nervous system (CNS) and play a
significant role in pathological diseases of the same. The gut-brain
axis, a bidirectional network of signaling channels that includes the
vagus nerve, the immune system, and bacterial metabolites and
products, serves as a medium for communication between the
neurological system and the gastrointestinal tract. It is very obvious in
the case of psychosomatic disorders like Ulcerative colitis, etc. that Gut is affected by Brain
and vice-versa.
