CASE REPORT ON AYURVEDIC TREATMENT MODALITY OF VIPADIKA WITH SPECIAL REFERENCE TO PLANTAR XEROSIS

Abstract
Introduction: Ayurveda as a part of ancient medicine gives prime
importance to Twak, representing sparshnaendriya and describes Twak
sharira. According to ayurveda each layer of Skin contributes in the
pathogenesis of specific skin diseases. Main Clinical finding: Plantar
psoriasis presents as dry skin, cracks associated with pain ranging from
mild to severe and itching. Diagnosis: This article describes a case
study of plantar psoriasis, in which clinical features were correlated
with Vipadika including Kharatva, Shushkata, Raga, Kandu, Shoola
along with daha as the predominant classical features elicited.
Intervention: Deepana pachana followed by snehapana with
panchatiktaka guggulu ghrita. Internal medication including
Arogyavardhini vati and Vijaya Parpati. Sthanika Abhyanga of
Bakuchi taila followed by Sthanika Avagaha Sweda with Kashaya prepared from Triphala,
Nimba, Manjishta, Vacha, Haridra and lastly followed by Sthanika lepa of Gandhaka
karpooradya Malahara for bilateral feet gave promising result in Vipadika Chikitsa.
Outcome: The symptoms like Daha, Kharatva, Shushkata, Raga, Kandu, and Shoola were
assessed periodically and alleviation was seen significantly in these features. Conclusion:
The observations from the case study suggested that Ayurveda treatments are most powerful
in the management of skin disease such as Vipadika represented as Plantar Psoriasis, the oral medication as well as topical applications of ayurvedic formulation gives encouraging effects to relive the disease pathogenesis and symptoms simultaneously.
