Abstract
Dyspnoea or breathlessness is defined as an individual alert of
breathing difficulty that consists of qualitatively marked sensations
that vary in strength. Breathlessness is a commonly reported
respiratory symptom. It can be a sign of onset or aggravation of other
health problems. Dyspnoea varies from individual to individual,
exposed to the same stimuli or with similar pathological conditions.
Dyspnoea is a symptom, not a sign, the patient experiences on its own.
AIM AND OBJECTIVES AIM: To Evaluate the utility of Kali group
of medicines in the treatment of dyspnoea. OBJECTIVES:
To find effectiveness of Kali group of remedies in dyspnoea by
SGRQ.
To explore type of dyspnoea prevalent in Bikaner
To explore which Kali group medicine is effective in-patient suffering from Dyspnoea
in Bikaner.
Study Design: Prospective, Single group assignment, Randomized. Method: 200 cases were
screened, out of which 100 were selected by randomisation using random number table. St.
George’s Respiratory Questionnaire(SGRQ)was the main tool used in the study for
evaluating before & after score for dyspnoea. Homoeopathic medicines of Kali group were given to the patients according to the susceptiblity, continued for the 6 follow ups. Study Setting: The present study was undertaken at M.N. Homoeopathic Medical college, and Research Institute, Bikaner. The cases were taken from the OPD/IPD. Study Duration: First 3 months preparation of trial by collecting 100 cases (sample size). then all cases were given different medicines of kali group for 3 months. Then for 3 months analysis and interpretation of data. Intervention- Kali group Homoeopathic remedies. Statistical Technique and Data Analysis: The statistical technique used was-'Paired t-test'. Paired t-test was used to assess the before and after score of SGRQ in each patient. Results: Paired sample t-test applied for before & after scores obtained from SGRQ Scoring shows mean = 42.91± 7.78 (SD) as after score in comparison to mean = 60.69 ± 8.11(SD) as before score which shows that kali group of remedies have significant effect (0.001) on dyspnea in reducing SGRQ. Conclusion: From the study titled “Effectiveness of Kali group of Remedies in cases of Dyspnoea in Bikaner Population –A Prospective Interventional Study” the results obtained from statistical tests applied show improvement in SGRQ score in cases of dyspnoea . Difference in before & after results of SGRQ score in case of dyspnoea is seen. Thus, it can be concluded that kali group homoeopathic remedies are effective in improving the cases of dyspnoea.
