Abstract
The main objective of present research is to formulate a sustained
release floating drug delivery of fexofenadine HCl by direct
compression method. Nine different formulations of fexofenadine HCl
floating tablets were developed with a gas generating agent NaHCO3
and in combination with various polymers like HPMC K4M, HPMC
K100M, Tamarindus seed powder in different ratios. Drug Excipient
compatibility study was confirmed by FTIR. The developed
formulations were evaluated for various physicochemical parameters
like swelling index, weight variation, friability, hardness, floating lag
time and ināvitro drug release, Formulation F9 was considered as an
optimized formulation on basis of acceptable tablet properties and in
vitro drug and was found to follow Higuchi release kinetics and zero order.
Keywords: Fexofenadine HCl, Gastroretentive drug delivery systems, NaHCO3, floating tablets, HPMC K4M.
