Abstract
In Ayurveda, the concept of srotas is mentioned very specially because
the human body is said to be made of srotas. Srotas are defined as the
channels through which the conduction of various substance or
elements takes place. The vitiation, depletion and maintenance of body
structure are never possible without the involvement of srotas.
Acharya Charak and Sushruta both has given the first priority to the
pranvaha srotas. Pranvaha srotas means the channels which carries
the external air into the body to sustain the life. The Pranvaha srotas is
most important for maintaining life and longevity. Hridya and
Mahasrotas are the moolastana of pranvaha srotas. Various Pranvaha Srotas vyadhis like
tamak shawas, kasa etc. occurring due to pranvaha srotas dusthi. These vyadhis have their
origin from the moolastana of srotas. Thus the moolasthsna of srotas is important area for
proper functioning of srotas. It implies the necessity of a through knowledge of srotas, its
moolastana and normal functioning. In this respect here an effort is made thoroughly to
understand the Pranvaha Srotas.
