A REVIEW ON JWARAGNA DRAVYAS OF GUDUCHYADI VARGA OF DANVANTARI NIGHANTU

. Abstract Most of the world's population uses traditional medicines for their primary health care and one of the most well-known diseases is Jwara (Pyrexia), a serious disease that affects people specialy living in very remote areas. People living in rural areas usually use traditional or Ayurvedic medicines for treatment. Ayurvedic medicine consists of plant, mineral and animal products that are commonly used to treat various ailments. One of the most famous Ayurvedic material medica is called Dhanvantri nighantu. Nighantu begins with salutations to Lord Dhanvantari, after which the author proceeds to narrate the synonyms and properties of medicines. The peculiarity of this Nighantu is that the Varga begins with the name of the first medicine, e.g. Guduchi as Guduchadi Varga. And the medicineal plants of the varga are systematically explained first by synonyms and then by properties. It contains various medicines, all classified according to Rasa, Guna, Virya and Vipak.
