Abstract

BIOLOGICAL INVESTIGATIONS OF THE LEAF EXTRACT OF SPONDIAS PINNATA

Abstract

In this present study, the leaf extracts of Spondias pinnata were subjected to a comparative evaluation of the thrombolytic and cytotoxic activity to brine shrimps (Artemia salina). The thrombolytic activity was assessed by using human erythrocyte and the results were compared with standard streptokinase (SK). The extracts demonstrated significant toxicity to A. salina with LC50 values ranging from 1.58 to 3.38 μg/ml as compared to standard vincristine sulphate (VS, LC50value 0.92 μg/ml).
