Abstract

AN EFFECTIVE AYURVEDIC MANAGEMENT OF MIGRAIN (ARDHAVBHEDAK) –A CASE STUDY

Abstract

Migraine is the disease which is characterized by pain in either half of the head. According to International headache society, Migraine constitutes 16% of the primary headache and affects about 10-20% of the general population. According to WHO there are 3000 migraine attacks occurring daily in millions of people. Ardhavabhedaka is mentioned under Shiroroga (Diseases of head) which can be correlated with migraine. Acharya Charak mentioned in samhita that the Nasya karma Is the best therapeutic treatment in shirorogas. According to Acharya Sharangdhar, Bruhan Nasya is indicated in Ardhavbhedak.[1] Shirodhara is not described in Panchkarma but it is the type of bahya snehan and is used in shirorogas. In Today’s era, we are experiencing abundant stress, anxiety and anger due to our modern life style. It affects the daily routine of the individual. So most of the people are facing the problems like insomnia, headache. But till now there is no effective management present in modern science as they give the symptomatic treatment. But Ayurveda acts on roots of the disease, it does samprapti vighatan and cures the disease. Hence it is the need of time to find out the safe and effective treatment modalities for these diseases. So a sincere effort is made to find out the efficacy of Shirodhara and nasya and other Shodhan and Shaman chikitsa in the management of migraine in this single case study. After 45 days of shirodhara, Nasya Karma, and other ayurvedic aushadhi chikitsa there is considerable improvement was seen in the clinical features of Migraine. Materials and Methods: The patient who approached Shalakya Tantra OPD of Government Ayurved College Osmanabad with symptoms of Migraine since 10 years was systemically reviewed.
