Abstract
Objective: This study we aimed to compare the antibacterial activity
of red piper betel leaf extract (Piper crocatum Ruiz & Pav) and
jatropha (Jatropha Curcas L.) leaves on Pseudomonas aeruginosa
ATCC 27853. Methods: Anti-pseudomonas bacterial analysis was
performed using the agar diffusion method with different
concentrations of extracts in the range of 20-60% w/v. The MIC values
of both extracts were determined using a microdilution method.
Results: The results indicated that the P. crocatum leaves extract
showed more potent inhibition than J. curcas extract. However, our
findings demonstrated that bost extract can inhibit P. aeruginosa
ATCC 27853 in the same MIC value (2.5-5%w/v). Conclusion:
Although both extract has the same MIC values, but the P. crocatum
extract provided higher diameter of inhibition and can be concluded to be the effective antipseudomonas
natural drug.
