TRIK GRAH A CONCEPTUAL REVIEW W.S.R TO ANKYLOSING SPONDYLITIS

Abstract

Trik Grah is explained in Brihat-trayias well as in other Ayurvedic literatures. The patients of Trik Grah feels pain and stiffness in Trik sandhi (Lumbosacral joints, Sacroiliac joints) Trik Grah is a condition where the lower back region is afflicted with vitiated Vata and present with symptoms such as pain with stiffness. Ankylosing Spondylitis is a chronic inflammatory arthritis with predilection for the sacroiliac joints and spine. It is characterized by progressive stiffness and fusion of axial skeleton. As there is no promising treatment available in modern systems of medicine, patient comes to Ayurveda with great hope. So there is a need of study in Ayurveda regarding this disease. Ankylosing Spondylitis can be correlated clinically, under Vata vyadi. Vata Vyadi can be considered as a group of such diseases, which modern science has given different names. According to Ayurveda, we can consider Ankylosing Spondylitis to Trik Grah, one of the Vata Nanatamaja Vyadhi. Trik Grah in Ayurveda on the basis of clinical features of the disease where Vata dosha with or without Aama dosha settles in Trik Pradesh and cause pain and stiffness.
