Abstract
Ebola viruses are endemic in parts of central Africa and are the
primary cause of Ebola hemorrhagic fever, a severe form of viral
hemorrhagic fever in humans. The Reston Ebola virus, which is
present in the Philippines and hasn't been linked to any human
illnesses, is an exception. The Ebola virus poses a serious threat to
local public health in Africa, and because it can be imported and there
is concern that it could be used for biological terrorism, it also has an
impact on the rest of the world. The African great ape population is
believed to suffer negative effects from the Ebola virus. Immune
suppression and a systemic inflammatory response are features of
Ebola virus infections.
