COMPARATIVE NUTRITIONAL STUDY OF SHIGRU (MORINGA OLIEFERA LAM.) OF DIFFERENT PARTS, A CLASSICAL AYURVEDIC DRUG

. Abstract Shigru (MO) is one among the vegetable drugs to be consumed according to classical texts of Ayurveda. As a single drug it is used as snehopaga (oleating), Krimighna (Anti-helmintic) Shirovirechana (head evacuation, snuffing), vranapachak (wound healer). It is also included as an ingredient of many polyherbal formulations. The present study was carried out to evaluate the comparative nutritional values of different parts of the Moringa oliefera Lam. Different nutritional parameters like carbohydrate, fat, protein energy value, calcium, sodium, Potassium and Dietary fibres were evaluated the following standard guidelines. Among the different parts of MO, Shigru leaves found more nutritious by having the highest content of protein and fat value. Micronutrients such as calcium, sodium and potassium content with dietary fibre was found highest in Shigru root as compared to other parts.
