RECENT TRENDS IN SUSTAINED RELEASE ORAL DRUG DELIVERY SYSTEM: A PROMISING APPROACH
Mr. Mohammed Saad M. Patiwala*, Mr. Sahilhusen I. Jethara, Dr. Mukesh R. Patel
Abstract Now a day‘s very few drugs are coming out of research and development and already existing drugs are suffering the problem of resistance due to their irrational use specifically in case of drugs like antibiotics. Hence, change in the operation is a suitable and optimized way to make the some drug more effective by slight alteration in the drug delivery. The main aim of preparing SR formulations was intended to modify and improve the drug performance by increasing the duration of drug action, decreasing the frequency of dosing, minimize side effects, decreasing the required dose employed and providing uniform drug delivery. Presently pharmaceutical industries are focusing on development of sustained release formulations due to its inherent boons. Wide varieties of polymers are available for retarding the release rate of drugs hence sustains the action of drugs. This is achieved by better control of plasma drug level and less frequent dosing. Successful commercialization of a controlled release formulation is frequently challenging and involves consideration of many factors such as physiochemical properties of the drug, physiological factors, and manufacturing variables. It is the purpose of this piece of writing to comprehensively review drug delivery system design for control release by discussing the recent formulation or approach available. The present review article is useful in knowledge of different formulation approach, criteria for drug selection, polymers used, advantages, characteristics and advance novel research for sustained release drug delivery systems Keywords: Sustained release, Half-life, Oral drug delivery system, Drug Release, Polymers.
