arthritis. According to studies, the global prevalence of rheumatoid
arthritis is estimated at 0.5-1.0%. Rheumatoid symptoms are closely
related to mudaku vathams in the Siddha system of medicine. The
Siddha system of medicine is an ancient system of medicine
documented by the Siddhars of South India. In the Siddha system of
medicine, which has various herbal, mineral and animal mixtures,
more attention is paid to improving the quality of life. Siddhars
formulated many effective formulations to treat rheumatoid arthritis
without side effects. Sagalavaayu cooranam is a polyherbal-mineral combination that
includes kadukaai (Terminalia chebula), nellikaai (Phylanthus emblica), sukku (Zingiber
officinale), milagu (Piper nigrum), thippili (Piper longum), seeragam (Cuminum cyminum),
thaandrikaai (Terminalia), and some other herbal ingredients, with fuller’s earth indicated
as mudaku vatham (rheumatoid arthritis). Overall, this review provides information about a
traditional herbal chooranam "sagalavaayu chooranam", which has anti arthritic, antiviral,
antibacterial, immunomodulatory, anti-inflammatory, antimicrobial and analgesic effects and
can be used for further research in the development of new drugs.
