Abstract
Herbal drugs are known to possess immunomodulatory properties and
generally act by stimulating both specific and nonspecific immunity.
Medicinal plants are an important source of producing valuable
bioactive secondary metabolites which are of great importance for the
health of individuals and communities. The medicinal values of plants
are due to the chemical substances that produce a definite
physiological action on the human body. Various portions of this plant
are utilized in folk medicine to treat many diseases such as diabetes,
jaundice, infections, leprosy, bronchitis, tumors, and pain and
inflammation. The biological properties of many Bauhinia species
have been studied in a variety of experimental in vivo and in vitro
models, with the results indicating that the purported therapeutic benefits are mostly related
to the presence of flavonoids. The plant species are high in phytoconstituents with high
antioxidant value and microbiological activity against both gram-positive and gram-negative
bacteria. Hence with the review, we are giving details picture of the pharmacological role of
Bauhinia variegata.
