Abstract
The current era, which reflects the changing social, economic, and
cultural dynamics brought on by urbanization, globalization, and
population ageing. A rise in the prevalence of some non-communicable
diseases is caused by this trend. The biological (including mental)
activity of the organism causes natural desires that regulate the
system's balance. Some of them are essentially physiological, while
others are defense mechanisms. The suppression of natural vega is the
primary cause of all diseases, according to ancient Ayurvedic literature.
Consequently, it shouldn't be suppressed. However, some people
continue to use it to suppress Vegas. According to Ayurveda,
Adharniya vega shouldn't be kept at any costs. They can cause a variety of health issues if
they are regularly inhibited for any reason. Suppression of nidra (sleep) should not be
retained as another of these 13 vegas. Regulating an urge Sharirika and Mansika Doshas may
both be affected by nidra. Modern science recognizes the value of sleep due to its restorative,
recuperative, and regenerating effects on living things. Lack of sleep caused due to shift work
sleep disorder will result in symptoms of insomnia and be linked to gastrointestinal problems,
cardiovascular problems, metabolic problems, immune system problems, cancer, and
reproductive problems. Ayurveda acharyas have long time ago recognized the adverse effects
of night awakening in the context of Adharneeya vegas which causes drowsiness, headache,
heaviness in the head and eyes, etc. In this article, we will attempt to explain the various
effects of nidra vega dharan on body mentioned in ayurvedic texts.
