PHARMACEUTICAL STUDY OF ARDRAKA PAKA SYRUP- A MODIFICATION OF CLASSICAL FORMULATION ARDRAKA PAKA

Abstract
Traditional and classical formulations are gaining more popularity and
product acceptance by the global market. Product design and
modification of formulations gaining equal attention to fulfil the needs
and expectations. In the current scenario with the advent of
pharmaceutical science, evolution of newer dosage forms and product
modification to facilitate convenient mode of administration came into
practice. Ardraka Paka is a classical Guda Paka formulation
mentioned in Yogachintamani, Bharatha Bhaishajya Rathnakara and
Ayurveda Sarasangraha indicated in Shwasa, Kasa, Smritibhramsha,
Swarabhanga, Arochaka, Hridroga, Grahani, Gulma, Shoola and
Shopha. In the present study the Guda paka form has been converted
into syrup form for better acceptance and convenience. The
pharmaceutical procedure adopted in the present study can be
considered as Standard Manufacturing Procedure. Three batches of Ardraka Paka Syrup were
prepared and average time taken for the preparation was 1h 05 min to 10 mins. The average
yield was 503ml and average percentage of loss was 53.77%. Throughout the process the
temperature was maintained between 85-950C.
