Abstract
Aggravation of Vata in the Kati Pradesha leading to Dhatukshaya
causes Kativata[1] producing symptoms like Kati Shoola, Kati Bhanga,
Sharira Vikara which has similar clinical representation with Lumbar
Disc Disease.[2] Degeneration, Prolapse, Protrusions and Herniation of
Nucleus pulposus of Lumbar Spine triggers the production of
proinflammatory cytokines which eventually perputate low back ache
which may be localized or referral and it also leads to Limitation of
spine motion, Abnormal Posture. About 60 – 80 % of the population in
India suffer from this condition. A single case study of Kativata is
selected and was assessed with parameters ie., Back pain function
scale[3] and Flexion, Extension of lumbar spine and SLRT. As Kati is
the Sthana of Vata, Basti is the general line of management. Hence patient of Kativata was
given Sthanika Chikitsa’s ie., localised Snehana and Swedana and Madhu Grthadhya Yapana
Basti[4] to normalize the deranged Vata and to bring Dhatusamyata. Marked improvement
was noticed in the score of Back pain functional scale, Flexion and Extension of the lumbar
spine, Reduction in SLRT and noticed Significant Changes in MRI Lumbar spine.
