ANTIOXIDANT, CYTOTOXIC AND PHYTOCHEMICAL ANALYSIS OF MEDICINAL PLANT FICUS MICROPHYLLA
Barsa Pradhan and Sunita Bhatnagar*
. Abstract Ficus microphylla belongs to a medicinally important family Moraceae. In the present study solvent leaf extracts of the plant were explored for their biological potential using antioxidant, cytotoxic and phytochemical analysis. Four leaf extracts namely hexane, chloroform, ethyl acetate and methanol were prepared. Amongst the secondary metabolites, tannin was present in hexane and methanol extract, where as saponin was present only in methanol extract. Methanol extract was also rich in phenolics content. Chloroform extract showed maximum number of antioxidant bands in qualitative analysis whereas methanol extract showed highest FRAP value and significant cytotoxic activity (87.9%) at a dose of 2000microgaram/ml. Keywords: Ficus microphylla, Moraceae, Antioxidant, Brine shrimp assay, DPPH. [Full Text Article] [Download Certificate] |
