. Abstract Objective: To determine Effect of Gas tamponade vs Air tamponade using pars plana vitrectomy Internal limiting membrane [ILM] peeling in the treatment of small and medium size full thickness Macular hole. Patients and Method: This was Case–control study conducted in Department of Ophthalmology eye unit 3, college of allied vision science / mayo hospital Lahore. Duration of the study was6 months from March 2019 till march 2021. The age group from 45 year to 72 years were included in this study. Total of 20 patients were included in this study who presented in OPD. These patients were divided in two equal groups Group A (patient who underwent PPV and ILM peel with AIR tamponade) and Group B (patient who underwent PPV and ILM peel with SF6 or c3f8 GAS tamponade). Results: Both of the groups show improvement in visual at the end of follow-up. Patients in group A showed improvement of 0.48 and group B patients showed improvement 0.41 logMAR BCVA at the end of follow-up. Only one patient in group A and one patients in group B had an open macular hole at end of follow-up on OCT. Closure rate was 90.% in each group. Conclusions: Results suggest that the Gas tamponade and Air tamponade both are safe and effective treatment for small and mediumfull thickness Macular hole. Keywords: full thickness Macular hole, Internal limiting membrane [ILM] peeling, pars plana vitrectomy, Gas tamponade, Air tamponade, SF, C3F8. [Full Text Article] [Download Certificate] |
