LITERATURE REVIEW OF GRIDHRASI

. Abstract Ayurveda is a science that impart all knowledge of life. The changes in life style and food habits often lead to vitiation in Dosha, Dhatu and Mala creating Vyadhi in the body. In Charaka Samhita Acharya Charaka has decribed about Gridhrasi. Gridhrasi is such an entity enumerated fewer then eighty types of Nanatmaja Vataj Vyadhies. Gridhrasi, Amavata, and Vatarakta are the few Vata related diseases. It is characterised by its distinct pain emerging from buttocks and goes towards the heal of affected side. Based on the symptom complex, it can be broadly correlate with disease Sciatica in modern science. Sakthi utkshepanigrahana is an important feature to differentiate this disease. This condition affects a large number of population in the world. The conventional treatment for sciatic pain is limited to analgesics and anti-inflammatory drugs. Whereas a wide range of effective treatments both internal and external has been mentioned in Ayurveda. This is a simple attempt to analyze the disease Gridhrasi with respect to Sciatica.
