Abstract
WHO defines infertility as a disease and considers a couple infertile if
they are not able to achieve a pregnancy after 12 months or more of
regular unprotected sexual intercourse. Potential pelvic causes of
infertility range from tubal and peritubal abnormalities to uterine,
cervical and ovarian disorders. Fallopian tube patency, morphology of
uterus and cervix are best assessed by hysterosalpingography (HSG)
which is simple, safe and inexpensive compared to other methods like
MRI or hysteroscopy evaluation of these structures. It has a sensitivity
of 65% and specificity of 83% in detecting tubal blockage. The aim of
our study was to evaluate the abnormalities of uterus and fallopian
tubes on HSG in patients being evaluated for infertility.
Keywords: Infertility, uterus, fallopian tube, hysterosalpingography, tubal block, peritoneal spill.
