Abstract
Acne vulgaris is a chronic inflammatory condition of the pilosebaceous
follicles that causes papules, pustules, and scarring,
primarily on the face and upper torso. Acne vulgaris is a common skin
condition that affects 79 to 95% of teenagers. Stress, increasing
pollution, dietary changes, lifestyle changes, and hormonal shifts have
all contributed to an increase in the number of young people suffering
with acne vulgaris. Mukhadushika or Yuvanpidika is the term used in
Ayurveda, and Mukhadushika is referenced under Kshudra Rogas in
Sushruta Samhita. Mukhadushika is described by Acharya Sushruta as
facial breakouts comparable to Shalmali thorns, particularly in teens.
According to Ayurveda, Mukhadushika is caused by vitiation of the Kaphadosha, Vatadosha,
and Rakta dhatus. There are two types of chikitsa, which are detailed.
Keywords: Acne Vulgaris, Mukhadushika, Kshudra roga, Shalmali thorns.
