VITEX NEGUNDO LINN, PHYTOCOMPOUNDS AND USES ANOVERVIEW

. Abstract According to the WHO, traditional and herbal remedies are now mostly used around the world, with 60 to 65 percent of people worldwide using these types of treatments. The Verbenaceae family of plants includes the aromatic herb Vitex negundo Linn. It is also known as the "Five Leaved Chaste Tree" or Nirgundi. Flavonoids, volatile oils, triterpenes, diterpenes, sesquiterpenes, lignan, flavones, glycosides, iridoid glycosides, and stilbene derivatives are only a few of the numerous chemical components found in plants. Every portion of the plant has these chemical components. The extract of Vitex negundo exhibits a wide range of pharmacological effects, including anti-inflammatory, antipyretic, anti-arthritic, antioxidant, analgesic, antibacterial, antitumor, anti-amnesic, anxiolytic, nephroprotective, anti-HIV, antitubercular, antieosinophilic, and anti-snake venom effects.
