A REVIEW ON MEDICINAL PLANTS USED IN LIVER PROTECTION
Sonali Rajendra Shejole*, Aditya Rajesh Jakhad and Prachi Rajendra Khairnar
. Abstract Liver illnesses have become a major global health concern, and they can be caused by a variety of hazardous compounds, including chemotherapeutic drugs, thioacetamide, carbon tetrachloride, some antibiotics, excessive alcohol use, and pathogenic microorganisms. As a result, maintaining a functioning liver is critical for overall health and well-being. Despite breakthroughs in pharmacology, the drawbacks of synthetic medications have outweighed the benefits. Treatment of liver illnesses based on modern medical concepts is becoming ineffective and is also associated with long term side effects, as well as exorbitant expenses in developing nations. Thus, it appears that investigating medicinal plants that are commonly available and inexpensive and do not need hard pharmaceutical production methods has attracted widespread attention as alternative therapeutic agents for medical conditions. As a result, folklore herbs with great potency, low toxicity, and low cost have received special attention. In this paper, we did a comprehensive evaluation of available material on several medicinal plants from across the world with hepatoprotective potential utilising multiple databases such as Google Scholar, ISI Web of Knowledge, and PubMed. Phytochemical substances having hepatoprotective properties were also discussed, and future research in the topic is highlighted. Keywords: Liver Diseases, Pharmacology, Medicinal Plant, Bioactive Compounds, Hepatotoxicity. [Full Text Article] [Download Certificate] |
