ISHAL-I-ATFAL (PEDIATRIC DIARRHEA) – AN EVIDENCE BASED REVIEW

. Abstract Diarrhea is one of the age old problem in children which can lead to severe dehydration if left untreated. Till today deaths are common in developing as well as in developed countries owing to its diverse etiology, unani medicine has been enriched with various drugs which can be used to treat diarrhea as it has got the chemical constituents which are scientifically proven to have antidiarrheal activities. Classical Unani literature from unani classical text like Al Qanoon fit Tibb (Canon of Medicine), Khazainul Advia, Jamia ul Mufradat al Advia al Aghiza, Busthan al-Muffradat, Al Qarabdin, Makhzan al- Mufradat, Muhit-i-A’zam, Kitab al-Fathfi al-Tadawi were thoroughly reviewed. The description of diarrhea and various drugs like jawarishe mastagi, jawarishe anarein, jawarish e amla, habbe zahar mohra is available in various authentic books of traditional unani medicine.
