*Dr. Ketkee D. Nirmal, Dr. Sonali Fulkar, Dr. Rajendra R. Lambat and Kalyanee Nirmal
. Abstract Agada means the medicaments which are used as an antidotes or substances having anti-poisonous properties. In Agadtantra various Agadas are described for treatment of various types of Jangam Visha (Animal poisons) and Sthavar Visha (vegetable and mineral poisons). Agadas which are explained in the texts act against different types of Visha (poisons) such as Sarpa Visha, Loota Visha, Keeta Visha, Dooshi Visha etc. Padmak Agad is described in Ashtang Hridya Uttar Tantra chapter 37. It is indicated in all types of Luta and Keet Visha.[1]Padmak Agad is told as Sarvakamika as it can be used in any kind of Keet Visha for treating any kind of symptoms. It can be use both externally and internally. It has three main ingredients Priyangu, Haridra, and Daruharidra along with Madhu and Ghrita. According to Acharya Sushruta, the utpatti of yakrut and pleeha is by rakta. Its functions are mainly ascribed towards rakta. Therefore, vitiation of Rakta will also result in derangement in the functions of Yakrut and vice versa. Yukaruta is correlated with liver in Ayurveda. As per the western science, any toxic compound after entering biological system has to undergo 4 phases namely Absorption, Assimilation, Metabolism and Excretion. Majority of the compounds ingested enters into the portal vein supplying the liver with blood from G.I. tract. Thus, liver becomes the common target organ for the effect of toxic compounds due to – Its structure, role in intermediary and xenobiotic metabolism, position and function. This is a conceptual study where the descriptions related to Padmak agada were collected from Ashtang Sangraha. Relevant textual literature and scientific publications were referred. As per ayurvedic karma and pharmacological properties according to modern science of Padamak agada ingredients, Padmak Agada may contribute towards its hepatoprotective activity. Padmak Agada may act as Hepatoprotective. Keywords: Padmak Agada, Hepatoprotective, Yakrut, Agada. [Full Text Article] [Download Certificate] |
