Abstract
Cerebral palsy (CP) is a group of disorder rather than specific diseases
which is presented by a nonprogressive impairment of movement and
posture resulting from brain injury or anomaly occurring in early
development. Severely affected children with CP cannot be completely
cured but often capabilities and quality of life can be improved with
the available treatment. The goal of treatment is to assist children with
cerebral palsy for developing their full potential by considering
specific Purvakarma therapy. A total 20 children of both sex, age in
between 1 to10 years, having history of perinatal asphyxia and
associated periventricular leucomalacia were enrolled after considering
the exclusion, inclusion criteria. Diagnosis of each enrolled case was
based on perinatal history, clinical manifestation and investigations.
Snehana with Mahanarayana oil followed by Shastishali Pinda Sweda
along with oral medication, was given for 21 days. Overall pre and post therapy improvement
was observed, assessed and recorded in each case as per various scoring systems e.g.
Modified Ashworth Scale, Teacher’s Drool Scale etc on preformed format. The result of this
therapy was observed highly significant when compared with the response of prior
management of CP patients during the same given period.
