INSILICO STUDIES ON THE DISRUPTION OF THE PITUITARY– THYROID AXIS BY THE DITHIOCARBAMATE FUNGICIDE MANCOZEB
Damayanthi Devi*
Abstract Endocrine disrupting chemicals, particularly many pesticides which are often used indiscriminately in large amounts are leading to environmental pollution and there by altering the normal functioning of the endocrine system of both wildlife and humans. There is increasing evidence that dithiocarbamates disturb thyroid function which is an important homeostatic regulator of metabolic activities as well as endocrine mechanisms. Present investigation elucidated the thyroid disrupting potential of dithiocarbamate mancozeb that specifically inhibits enzyme thyroid peroxidase there by decreasing the T 3 and T 4 levels leading to hypothyroidism. In the present study, an attempt has been made to study the mechanism of inhibition of thyroid peroxidase (TPO) enzyme by the dithiocarbamate mancozed using insilico studies. Keywords: Endocrine system, dithiocarbamates, thyroid, thyroid peroxidase, mancozeb, hypothyroidism. [Full Text Article] [Download Certificate] |
