RECENT DEVELOPMENT IN HERBAL DRUG RESEARCH FOR GLOBAL HEALTH CARE

Abstract
Herbal drugs play a major role of all the officially recognized systems
of Health in India such as Ayurveda, Yoga, Unani, Siddha,
Homeopathy and Naturopathy, except Allopathy. India is a diversity
source of herbal plants and is one of the richest countries in the world
with regard to genetic resources for medicinal plants. Increased
awareness regarding herbal drugs is due to current widespread belief
that green medicine is safe, more accessible and more affordable than
costly synthetic drugs, many of which have adverse side effects.
Traditional herbal medicines are naturally occurring, plant-derived
substances. Herbal medicines make up a significant constituent of the
tendency toward alternative medicine. This medicine is becoming ever
more popular in today’s world as natural remedies for the treatment of
various complications. Governments, international agencies and Pharmaceutical industries
are increasingly investing in traditional herbal medicine research for isolating potential
phytochemicals. Therapeutic uses of herbal medicines are getting significant attention in
global health debates. Therefore in this review attempts have been made to know about some
plants and beneficial potency like antimicrobial, antidiabetic, antifertility, antiageing,
antidepressant, antianxiety, antispasmodic, analgesic, anti-inflammatory, anti-HIV,
hepatoprotective etc. It may be useful for the pharmaceutical professionals, health
professionals and research scientists to grow an interest for working in the field of
phytomedicine to develop herbal medicine which will be cured different kinds of diseases in
man and animals.
